My Review

I purchased this product myself from my hard earned cash, just so ya know..

My first impressions of this product is very positive. It smells divine, like citrus grapefruit.. I’m obsessed with this scent.

This exfoliator is very very gritty. Is it too gritty to use on the face? I’m not 100% sure how to answer that as I don’t have any qualifications in skincare.. I feel like it might be a bit too gritty for regular use. I use it once every two weeks, I have a more gentle exfoliation routine. I do not want to over exfoliate as I know that doing so can be damaging. I’m pretty sensitive, with a few broken blood vessels and don’t want to make that worse!

I really enjoy using this product. I feel it makes a difference. My face always feels soft after use, and my face never feels overly stretched and tight afterwards. Sometimes it feels a teeny bit dry afterwards, I would then follow up with a hydrating face oil.

Whats In It?

Looking at the ingredients, there seems to be quite a long list. A few concerning ingredients that may lead me to avoid repurchasing this product, hopefully I can find an alternative exfoliator that wont dry out my skin like this one. I was pleasantly surprised to discover some beautiful ingredients like shea butter, sweet almond oil and aloe vera. These ingredients were not mentioned in the description on the packaging. Lets have a further look..

Aqua (Water/Eau)
Polyethylene – Plastic, not the ideal exfoliant to find in the ingredient list. Plastic is bad for the environment.
Cetearyl Alcohol –  I used to see this and thing OMG Alcohol nooo that sounds so DRYING! But, CETEARYL Alcohol is quite the opposite! In cosmetics the ingredient is derived from plants. It helps the product spread evenly and it also softens and conditions hair and skin. I see this ingredient in so many products now and I’m at ease knowing it is not like a ruling alcohol! Stops oil and water from separating.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride – Conditioning emollient derived from coconut oil
Triethanolamine – pH balancing agent
Glycolic Acid – exfoliating acid derived from fruits, this ingredient encourages skin renewal which leads to healthy bright looking skin
Glycerin – Encourages healthy looking skin and helps prevent the skin from drying out
Glyceryl Stearate – This product is found naturally in the body apparently. It helps keep moisture in, forming a barrier with a smooth soft surface
PEG-100 Stearate – helps water and oil mix together to clean the skin
Butyrospermum Parkii Butter – Shea Butter
Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil – Sweet Almond Oil
Phenoxethanol – Antibacterial preservative
Benzyl Alcohol – pleasant smelling preservative
Xanthan Gum – Skin conditioning ingredient binder
Limonene – I know this ingredient can be an irritant on the skin. Derived from acidic fruits.
Parfum (Fragrance) – Probably one of the worst things to find in ingredients, because who knows what chemicals are put together to make this “Parfum” as companies do not need to disclose this information. It is a very common irritant to the skin. Many people become intolerant to products because of this one ingredient.
Disodium EDTA – preservative cleaning agent
Salicylic Acid – Helps remove the outer layer of skin
Benzyl Benzoate – Preservative and fragrance ingredient
Dehydroacetic Acid – Anti-fungal preservative
Geraniol – Naturally occurring scent ingredient
Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract – Aloe Vera
Tocopheryl Acetate – Vitamin E
Butylphenyl Methypropional – Perfume ingredient
Citral – Scent
Linalool – Scent
Cl 42090 (Blue no.1) – This product is pretty much white in colour..

I purchased this product in Shoppers Drug Mart and it cost around $15CAD (I can’t remember precisely the price..). I really loved this product, it was recommended to me by my sister who is a beautician in Mallow, Co Cork Ireland, and you can find her page here. I’m not finished the tube of product yet, I’m going to finish it off, look for an alternative. If I can’t find something similar, I might be getting it again. I do really love how my skin feels after using it, but I’m concerned about fragrance in the ingredients list.
