Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
#MascaraMonday! We’ve all heard of this “Better Than Sex” mascara at this stage, if you haven’t.. what rock you living under!? I’ve heard nothing but fantastic reviews about this mascara so when I was the owner of this bad boy I was delighted to finally try it!
1944% more volume.. this is obviously a joke. But the following statistics are based on consumer study results:
- 93% saw base-to-tip curl
- 100% saw dramatic volume
- 100% saw longer lashes
- 90% saw a dramatic look with one coat
The wand is an hourglass shape which is the “perfect brush silhouette that separates, coats and curls each lash to voluptuous perfection”. Some key ingredients are:
- Film forming polymer
- Acacia Senegal Tree Extract
- Peptides
My Experience
If you don’t enjoy close-up pictures of eyeballs, look away now.
The packaging of the bottle is gorgeous. Very feminine, soft metallic with embossed lettering. It’s quite a large bottle which is fine. I do think the wand is a great shape for grabbing onto the lashes, especially when you twist the wand through the lashes. The wand itself is heavier than regular wands. I found this a little bit odd and took me a few minutes to get used to the new weight. I wasn’t expecting it to be heavy!
Lets have a look at how it performed…

One Coat of Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara
As you can see, mascara makes an awful difference to my lashes. My natural lashes are quite fair. Two coats of this masara is enough, even though on the back of the packaging it says you can do up to three coats. I wouldn’t recommend doing that.
In the close-up of the lashes where two coats were applied you can see clumps starting to form at the tip of the lashes. Not good.
These are some pictures taken at the end of the day. Let’s have a look at the lasting power…
Inspect my undereye for a moment. Do you see the fallout? Not impressed! I purposely didn’t fix my undereye all day for the purpose of this review so everyone can see what I was dealing with. This is approximately 10 hours of wear. The pigmentation lived up to its name, it’s still very black at the end of the day. However the flaking is a huge issue for me, If I were to wipe the product away it was leaving a trail. It wasn’t a quick flick away, it literally forces me to remove my entire under eye and re-do. I would rather not have dark circles under my eyes, thank you!
I was really expecting to be overwhelmed by this mascara because of the massive hype surrounding it, but I was everything but.. I don’t get it. What’s the big deal? I am curious to try the waterproof version. Perhaps this would be a better product for me? I suffer from undereye fall out quite often with mascaras, but this is quite bad, probably the worst I’ve seen in a long time.
The fact that upon application the mascara didn’t immediately blow me away, and to top it off with mass fallout and flaking, I will not be getting another bottle of this mascara.
This mascara can be purchased at Sephora and costs $30CAD.
I know mascaras perform completely different for everybody, this is my review and my take on the product. Has anybody else had this experience with Better Than Sex? Also, what’s your favourite mascara. I wanna try it!
Finally, someone who isn’t head over heels about this!!! I luuuuurve the L’Oreal Lash Paradise, it’s copycat. Try that!!

First of all- your skin is flawless…. second of all, this mascara is a hit or miss for me, I find that the small sample sizes seem to be better than the large mascaras? I’m not sure if that is possible, but I have found that the sample sizes are not as wet and watery in formula, thanks for the honest review!
